CRACKED AND BEAUTIFUL

A cracked kind of beauty with battle scars

Sheila Ojei

I woke up today with cracked vases in my thoughts, most especially the beauty of rebuilding what was broken and could be written off. When put back together it is never quite the same as it used to be and it is still beautiful.

Find yourself
Find each little piece of you

Put it all together
Find the glue that will make you whole again

Like a puzzle, you will discover
Discover each part of you that was broken

Dust off the debris from the battle
You must be cleaned to be rebuilt

Chipped around the edges
No longer what they used to be

You will lose some
Will spend hours searching shattered pieces for what was important

Pain becomes you
Inexplicable pain from deep within

Pain which hits you when nobody's watching
Pain which creeps up on you when you see others whole

In the morning, you will smile
At night, you will cry
As you watch the different pieces you must rebuild

Set, Glue, Wait

This process will not be rushed
You will find your peace in these pieces

Sometimes you will linger
Remembering who you were and how you stood tall

You will lose faith
Be tempted to start all over

To become what you once were
Untouched, Untainted, Unexplored

You will find beauty with each piece of you
The frailty of your past will become a mirage

You are whole again
You are new

A cracked kind of beauty with battle scars
Scars which tell your story

Broken but rebuilt
Cracked and beautiful.
